How It Works
Copper chlorophyll works through two mechanisms. Firstly, as a colorant, the molecule absorbs and reflects light in ways that create its distinctive green colour without the need for synthetic dyes. Secondly, when absorbed or retained in skin tissue, copper chlorophyll may interact with cellular processes—particularly those related to collagen and elastin maintenance in the deeper skin layers.
The copper component is thought to play a role in enzymatic activity and cellular signalling, though the exact pathways remain incompletely understood. Most evidence comes from small-scale studies, and the practical significance of these mechanisms in everyday skincare use requires clarification.

A small clinical study examining sodium copper chlorophyllin in a liposomal gel formulation (0.05% concentration) found statistically greater expression of fibrillin and epidermal mucins in photoaged skin compared to untreated controls over a 12-day period. Fibrillin is a key structural protein, and increased expression may indicate active skin repair processes.
However, this evidence is preliminary: the study involved only four participants and a short timeframe. Whilst the findings are encouraging, they do not yet establish copper chlorophyll as a proven anti-ageing agent. More extensive clinical trials would be needed to confirm efficacy, determine optimal concentrations, and establish long-term safety. The ingredient's primary cosmetic role remains as a colorant.
