Decyl cocoate is an ester derived from coconut oil, created by combining decanol (a fatty alcohol) with coconut fatty acids. It functions as an emollient and skin conditioning agent, working to soften and smooth the skin surface.This ingredient is found in a small proportion of skincare formulations, typically at low concentrations. Its role is primarily to improve the feel and texture of a product whilst supporting the skin's natural moisture retention.

Decyl cocoate works by depositing a thin, lightweight film on the skin's surface. This occlusive layer reduces water evaporation whilst maintaining breathability, which means it doesn't feel heavy or suffocating on the skin.As a fatty ester, it mimics some of the conditioning properties of natural skin oils, helping to restore a smooth texture without the greasy feel of heavier emollients.

Decyl cocoate is typically used as a supporting ingredient in creams, serums and lotions rather than a standalone treatment.
