Inulin Lauryl Carbamate

Inulin lauryl carbamate is a modified carbohydrate derived from inulin, a naturally occurring polysaccharide found in plants such as chicory root. The ingredient is created by chemically combining inulin with a lauryl carbamate group, which alters its behaviour in cosmetic formulations.In skincare products, it functions primarily as an emulsion stabiliser and surfactant. This means it helps bind together oil and water-based ingredients that would normally separate, whilst also reducing surface tension to improve how a product spreads and feels on the skin.

Inulin lauryl carbamate stabilises emulsions by positioning itself at the interface between oil and water molecules. Its molecular structure has both water-loving and oil-loving regions, allowing it to hold these incompatible phases together and prevent them from separating over time.As a surfactant, it also reduces the surface tension of water, which allows formulations to spread more easily and penetrate or coat the skin more effectively.

This ingredient is used at low concentrations within finished formulations and requires no special application technique. Simply use your product as directed by the manufacturer. There is no benefit to using higher concentrations, as the ingredient is optimised by formulators for specific product types.

Inulin lauryl carbamate is generally well-tolerated and approved for use in cosmetics in major regulatory regions including the EU and UK. Allergic contact dermatitis is rare but possible, as with most ingredients.
