Lac Extract

Lac extract is derived from lac resin, a natural substance secreted by the lac insect (Kerria lacca). This resin has been used in traditional practices and cosmetics for centuries, particularly in South Asian skincare. In formulations, it functions primarily as a skin conditioning agent.When incorporated into skincare products, lac extract forms a protective layer on the skin's surface. This film-forming property helps to reduce transepidermal water loss and supports the skin's ability to retain moisture, making it a humectant and emollient ingredient.

Lac extract works through film-forming and occlusive mechanisms. When applied to the skin, it creates a thin, breathable layer that seals in moisture without blocking the skin's natural functions. Lac extract is typically found in moisturisers, serums, and barrier repair products at relatively low concentrations. Apply these products to clean, slightly damp skin to maximise hydration benefits.
