Lilium candidum flower extract comes from the flowers of the white lily plant, sometimes called the Madonna lily, which is native to the Balkans and the Middle East.\n\nUsed in traditional medicinal practices for centuries to treat skin ailments, modern medicine finds there is evidence to back up this use. Studies find Lilium candidum flower extract exerts strong antioxidant properties thanks to its phenolic compounds which also have anti-inflammatory effects.\n\nSome research even indicates that extracts from the flowers of the white lily might inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, whose overproduction can lead to skin discolorations.\n\nNote that while the flower extract from the white lily has benefit for skin, the essential oil extracted from the same flower contains volatile compounds that can cause skin irritation.\n\nUsage levels for Lilium candidum flower extract range from 5-10% when supplied as part of a water-based blend.
