As a humectant, this ingredient works by creating a hygroscopic effect — it has an affinity for water molecules and draws them from deeper skin layers and the surrounding environment toward the stratum corneum (the outermost skin layer). This action temporarily plumps the skin and can improve its appearance and feel.The glycerin component is particularly effective at this task, whilst the PEG and PPG polymers help the ingredient dissolve evenly in formulations and enhance their cosmetic properties.

This ingredient is typically found in serums, moisturisers, and toners.
