What Is Potassium Cocoate?
Potassium cocoate is the potassium salt of coconut fatty acids, created through the saponification of coconut oil with potassium hydroxide. It functions primarily as a cleansing agent and surfactant in cosmetic formulations, helping to mix oil and water and create lather. As a cleansing agent, it is effective at removing dirt and oil from the skin and hair. However, like many soap-based cleansing agents, it has a high pH which can be potentially drying or irritating to the skin, especially when used in high concentrations or in leave-on products. It is most commonly found in rinse-off products like cleansers and soaps.
