Quaternium-95 is a synthetic quaternary ammonium compound—a type of conditioning polymer commonly derived from plant-based materials. It functions as a film-former and conditioning agent, helping to coat and smooth the hair surface and scalp.In skincare formulations, it appears infrequently (found in roughly 0.1% of products). Its primary roles are to condition and provide some degree of UV absorption, though its use in facial skincare remains limited compared to its application in haircare products.

Quaternium-95 is a cationic (positively charged) polymer that adheres to the skin's surface, creating a conditioning layer. This coating helps reduce transepidermal water loss and can impart a smoother, softer tactile quality.As a UV absorber, it has the capacity to absorb some ultraviolet radiation, though the extent of protection depends on concentration and formulation.
