Sodium C12-14 Olefin Sulfonate

Sodium C12-14 olefin sulfonate is a synthetic anionic surfactant derived from petroleum-based olefins. It belongs to the same chemical family as many traditional cleansing agents and is commonly used in rinse-off formulations such as cleansers, shampoos, and body washes.As a surfactant, its primary role is to reduce the surface tension of water, allowing it to effectively lift oils, dirt, and makeup from the skin. It also generates the foam and lather that many users associate with a thorough cleanse.

Surfactants have a dual nature: one end is attracted to water and the other to oils. When applied to damp skin, sodium C12-14 olefin sulfonate surrounds oil and dirt particles, allowing them to be lifted away and rinsed off with water. This mechanism makes it particularly effective in cleansers intended for daily use.

Use in a cleanser by applying a small amount to damp skin, massaging gently, and rinsing thoroughly with water. In rinse-off formulations, complete removal is important to prevent any potential residual irritation, particularly for those with sensitive skin.
