Stearyl Stearate

Stearyl stearate is an ester formed from stearyl alcohol and stearic acid. It is a waxy, lipophilic (oil-loving) ingredient that works primarily as a skin conditioning agent and emollient in skincare formulations.In products, it serves multiple functions: it softens and smooths the skin surface, helps control the thickness and flow of creams and lotions, and contributes to the overall texture and feel of a formula. It is relatively uncommon in skincare, appearing in roughly 0.2% of products on the market.

Stearyl stearate is a wax-like compound that sits on the skin surface and within the outer layers of the stratum corneum. It works by filling small gaps between skin cells and reducing transepidermal water loss, which helps maintain skin hydration.In formulations, it also interacts with other ingredients to modify how a product spreads and feels on application, contributing to a smooth, stable texture.
