Tosylamide/formaldehyde resin is a synthetic polymer derived from the condensation of tosylamide and formaldehyde. It functions as a film former and plasticiser in cosmetic formulations, most commonly found in nail varnishes and long-wear lip products where durability and adhesion are priorities.The ingredient creates a flexible, protective layer on the skin or nail surface. Its primary role is to help cosmetic products adhere better and resist flaking or chipping during wear, extending product longevity.

When applied, tosylamide/formaldehyde resin polymerises to form a continuous film across the nail surface or lips. This film bonds to the substrate through both physical adhesion and cross-linking, creating a cohesive protective layer.The resin's plasticising properties allow the film to flex with natural nail movement or lip activity without fracturing, which is why it is particularly valued in products designed for prolonged wear.
