Butyl Avocadate is an ester of butyl alcohol and fatty acids derived from avocado pears (Persea Gratissima Oil). It is primarily used in cosmetic formulations for its powerful sebum-regulating and skin-conditioning properties. Often marketed under the trade name 5α-Avocuta, this ingredient is clinically shown to reduce excessive sebum production by inhibiting the 5α-reductase enzyme, which is responsible for converting testosterone into the more potent dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a key driver of oiliness and acne.\n\nBy curbing the activity of this enzyme, Butyl Avocadate helps to control oily shine, prevent clogged pores, and provide a mattifying effect, making it highly beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin types. Beyond its oil-control capabilities, it also functions as a skin conditioner, helping the skin remain smooth, supple, and elastic. It is also noted for its potential as an absorbent, soothing agent, and antioxidant.
