What Is Coral Powder?
Coral powder is a finely milled abrasive ingredient sourced from coral. It functions as a physical exfoliant, meaning it works through mechanical action to remove dead skin cells and surface debris from the skin.
As an abrasive, coral powder particles are designed to be gentle enough for topical skincare whilst still providing mechanical exfoliation when massaged across the skin's surface.
Benefits for Your Skin
How It Works
Coral powder exfoliates through physical friction. When gently massaged onto damp skin, the fine particles interact with the skin's surface, mechanically dislodging dead skin cells and other surface debris. This differs from chemical exfoliants, which use acids or enzymes to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells.
The particles are small enough to be tolerable for topical application whilst still providing meaningful exfoliating action when used appropriately.
Clinical Evidence & References
Research on coral powder's behaviour in cellular environments suggests it can be gradually broken down by cells under specific conditions. However, evidence specifically demonstrating its efficacy and safety in cosmetic formulations remains limited. Most supporting data comes from in vitro studies rather than human clinical trials.
As with most physical exfoliants, benefits are likely to be observable through regular use, though individual results will vary depending on skin type and application technique.

How to Use
Use 2-3 times per week on damp skin, applying with gentle circular motions. Avoid over-exfoliating, which can compromise your skin barrier. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and follow with a moisturiser. Those new to physical exfoliation should start with once-weekly application and increase frequency gradually as skin adapts.
