Hydrolyzed Calcium Hyaluronate

Hydrolyzed calcium hyaluronate is a modified form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring humectant found in skin and connective tissue. In this version, hyaluronic acid has been broken down into smaller molecular fragments and combined with calcium, theoretically allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin barrier than standard hyaluronic acid.Like other hyaluronic acid derivatives, it functions as a humectant — a substance that draws water from the environment and deeper skin layers to the surface, helping to plump and hydrate the stratum corneum (outermost layer).

Hydrolyzed calcium hyaluronate works by drawing water molecules into the outer layers of skin through osmotic action. Because it has been broken down into smaller molecular fragments, it may penetrate further into the epidermis than unmodified hyaluronic acid, potentially delivering hydration to deeper layers whilst still supporting surface moisture.The calcium component may play a supporting role in skin conditioning, though the primary benefit comes from the hydrating properties of the hyaluronate itself.

This ingredient works best in serums or essences applied to damp skin, which helps the humectant draw additional moisture into the skin. Follow with an emollient or occlusive product (such as a moisturiser or facial oil) to lock in hydration and prevent transepidermal water loss. It can be layered with other active ingredients and is generally non-irritating, making it suitable for use once or twice daily depending on your skin's hydration needs.

Hydrolyzed calcium hyaluronate is generally well-tolerated across skin types with a low risk of irritation. No significant safety concerns have been identified, though those with a known sensitivity to hyaluronic acid or calcium salts should patch-test first.
