Methyl Estradiolpropanoate (MEP) is a synthetic compound designed to activate estrogen receptors in the skin without delivering systemic hormones. It functions as a skin conditioning agent and emollient, helping to improve skin texture and hydration.
The ingredient was developed to address a specific concern: the visible skin changes that can occur during menopause and perimenopause, when declining oestrogen levels affect skin firmness, elasticity, and overall appearance. It works topically on the skin's surface and within the epidermis, rather than entering the bloodstream.
How It Works
MEP is a non-hormonal oestrogen receptor activator, meaning it mimics some effects of oestrogen at the cellular level without introducing hormones into the body. The skin has oestrogen receptors, and declining oestrogen levels during menopause can reduce collagen production, skin thickness, and moisture retention. By activating these receptors topically, MEP may signal the skin to maintain or restore some of these age-related changes.
