What Is Niacinamide Ascorbate?
Niacinamide ascorbate is a hybrid ingredient that combines niacinamide (also called vitamin B3) with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in a single molecular form. This combination is designed to deliver the benefits of both compounds whilst potentially improving stability compared to ascorbic acid alone.
As a skin conditioning agent, niacinamide ascorbate works to support the skin's natural protective functions and help maintain hydration and elasticity.
How It Works
Both niacinamide and vitamin C function as antioxidants, meaning they help neutralise free radicals — unstable molecules generated by UV exposure and environmental stress that can damage skin cells and accelerate visible aging. By reducing oxidative stress, these ingredients may help protect collagen and elastin fibres from degradation.
Niacinamide additionally supports the skin barrier and helps regulate sebum production, whilst vitamin C is involved in collagen synthesis. The combined form aims to deliver these benefits in a single ingredient, though individual skin responses may vary.
Clinical Evidence & References
Research suggests that combinations of niacinamide and vitamin C may help attenuate photoaging and skin pigmentation by modulating antioxidant pathways in the skin. A study using a topical formula containing niacinamide and vitamin C showed increased skin elasticity and reduced pigmentation in a UV-exposed model.
However, evidence specific to niacinamide ascorbate as a single ingredient is limited. Most research focuses on niacinamide and vitamin C as separate actives. Further clinical studies would help establish the efficacy of this combined form compared to individual ingredients at comparable concentrations.

How to Use
Niacinamide ascorbate is typically found in serums, moisturisers and treatment formulations. Apply to clean skin, either morning or evening, and allow to absorb before applying sunscreen or other products. Combine with a broad-spectrum SPF during the day to maximise photoprotection. Start with lower concentrations if new to vitamin C products, as some users experience mild irritation during adjustment.
