Oleyl Alcohol

Oleyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from oleic acid, a naturally occurring monounsaturated fat found in plant and animal sources. Unlike ethanol (the drying alcohol found in some skincare), fatty alcohols are emollients—they're waxy, protective molecules that soften and condition the skin.In skincare formulations, oleyl alcohol serves multiple functions: it acts as an emollient to improve skin feel, can help dissolve and stabilise other ingredients, and moderates the thickness of creams and serums. It's used in roughly 0.2% of skincare products, typically at low concentrations.

Oleyl alcohol works by interacting with the lipids (fats) in your skin's outermost layer, the stratum corneum.
