PEG-2 Stearate

PEG-2 Stearate is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative of stearic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid. It belongs to a class of ingredients called nonionic emulsifiers, which means it carries no electrical charge. Its primary role in skincare formulations is to bind water and oil together, creating a stable, homogeneous texture that would otherwise separate.This ingredient appears in roughly 0.1% of skincare products, typically in creams and lotions where maintaining an even consistency over time is important.

PEG-2 Stearate works by positioning itself at the boundary between oil and water molecules. One end of the molecule is water-loving (hydrophilic) and the other is oil-loving (lipophilic), allowing it to hold these normally incompatible substances in suspension.This stabilising action prevents the formula from breaking down or becoming grainy, which helps maintain the integrity of the product and allows other beneficial ingredients to remain evenly distributed throughout.

PEG-2 Stearate is a background ingredient; you won't need to use it in any specific way. Simply apply your formulation as directed on the product label.
