Polyester-32

Polyester-32 is a synthetic polymer used in skincare formulations primarily for its film-forming properties. It is derived from polyester chemistry and functions as an ingredient that adheres to the skin to form a thin, continuous coating.When applied topically, Polyester-32 creates a protective barrier on the skin's surface. This film-forming action can help to smooth the appearance of the skin and may provide a degree of temporary coverage or wear-resistant properties to formulations.

Polyester-32 works by forming a flexible polymer network across the skin's surface. Once applied, this synthetic film adheres to the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin) and sets to create a continuous protective layer.This coating can help minimise transepidermal water loss (TEWL) by providing a physical barrier, whilst also smoothing micro-irregularities in skin texture. The film is typically flexible enough to move with facial expressions and does not crack or flake under normal wear.

Polyester-32 is typically used in formulations where a smooth finish and protective layer are desired, such as primers, serums, or protective day creams. Apply to clean skin, allowing the formulation to set for a few moments before layering other products. If using multiple products containing film-formers, apply lighter formulations first to avoid excessive buildup.

Polyester-32 is generally well-tolerated and considered safe for topical use in cosmetics. It is not known to be a skin sensitiser or irritant in standard concentrations. Those with very sensitive skin may wish to patch-test first.
