Polyester-37

Polyester-37 is a synthetic polymer—a long-chain molecule made up of repeating units joined together. It belongs to a class of ingredients called film-formers, which means it can create a thin, flexible layer on the skin's surface when applied in a formula.In skincare and haircare products, Polyester-37 serves primarily as a conditioning agent and film-former. It helps to smooth the skin's surface, improve texture, and create a silky feel. Unlike heavy occlusive oils, it forms a breathable film that doesn't leave a greasy residue, making it suitable for a range of formulations.

Polyester-37 works by depositing a thin, continuous film across the skin's surface. This polymer adheres to the outer layer of skin and sets into a flexible coating that is resistant to water and movement—hence the term 'film-former'.This mechanism provides an immediate smoothing effect that can minimise the appearance of surface irregularities and create a soft-focus visual benefit. The film remains flexible rather than rigid, so it moves with facial expressions and doesn't feel restrictive.

Polyester-37 is typically found in formulations as part of a blend of conditioning agents and texturisers. Apply it to clean, dry or slightly damp skin as part of your regular skincare routine. It works well layered with other products and is particularly useful before makeup application if you want to create a smoother base. Allow the product to set for a minute or two before applying subsequent layers.

Polyester-37 is generally well-tolerated and is not known to be a common irritant or allergen. It is non-comedogenic and suitable for most skin types, though those with very sensitive skin should patch-test first.
