Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable polymer derived from fermented plant starch, typically from corn, sugarcane, or tapioca. In skincare, it is used as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic microbeads for physical exfoliation.
PLA particles provide gentle mechanical exfoliation without the environmental concerns associated with plastic microbeads. They break down naturally in the environment, making them a sustainable choice.
The ingredient can also act as a biostimulator in professional treatments, where it helps stimulate collagen production when injected into the dermis.
