Rosa canina flower oil works by sitting on the surface of the skin and forming an occlusive layer that reduces the rate at which water evaporates from the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin). This helps the skin retain moisture and feel softer and more supple.The oil's fatty acid composition—typically including linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and oleic acid—mimics some of the skin's natural lipid profile, which may allow it to integrate more compatibly with the skin barrier than some heavier oils.

Rosa canina flower oil works best when applied to damp skin, as this helps trap moisture against the skin surface. It can be used alone or mixed into other products. Because it is occlusive, a little goes a long way—start with a few drops and increase as needed. If using it in the evening routine, allow it to absorb before contact with pillows or fabrics to prevent transfer.
