Sucrose Stearate

Sucrose stearate is a naturally derived emulsifier made from sucrose (a sugar) and stearic acid (a fatty acid). It belongs to a class of mild, non-ionic surfactants that help oil and water mix together in skincare formulations.In products, it serves multiple roles: it stabilises emulsions to prevent separation, conditions the skin by forming a light protective layer, and can improve how active ingredients penetrate the skin. It appears in roughly 0.7% of skincare products, often used alongside other stabilising agents.

Sucrose stearate is a surfactant, meaning one end of its molecule is water-loving and the other is oil-loving. This allows it to sit at the interface between oil and water phases in an emulsion, preventing them from separating.
