PEG-10

PEG-10 (polyethylene glycol-10) is a synthetic polymer derived from ethylene oxide. It belongs to the polyethylene glycol (PEG) family of ingredients, which are widely used across cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. In skincare, PEG-10 serves primarily as a humectant and solvent.As a humectant, it works to draw moisture into the skin. As a solvent, it helps dissolve and stabilise other ingredients within a formulation, improving texture and consistency. PEG-10 is found in a small proportion of skincare products, typically at lower concentrations.

PEG-10 is hygroscopic, meaning it has an affinity for water molecules. When applied to skin, it attracts moisture from both the environment and deeper skin layers, helping to increase surface hydration. This can support the skin's natural moisture barrier function.In formulations, PEG-10 also dissolves or disperses other ingredients evenly, ensuring they are distributed consistently throughout the product and remain stable over time.

PEG-10 is typically used as part of a complete formulation rather than a standalone ingredient. It works well in serums, hydrating toners, and lightweight moisturisers. For best results, apply to damp skin to maximise its humectant effect, and follow with an emollient or occlusive product to seal in hydration, particularly in dry environments.
