What Is Podocarpus Elatus Fruit Extract?
Podocarpus elatus fruit extract comes from a tree native to Australia also known as the plum pine, Illawarra plum, or Queensland Christmas Tree. Research finds that Illawarra plum fruit is high in antioxidant-rich phenolic compounds, including gallic acid and ellagic acid. Gallic acid in particular is beneficial because in addition to its free-radical fighting properties, studies find it also has soothing benefits and can fade dark spots and uneven tone. Podocarpus elatus fruit extract is included in a commercial ingredient blend including water, glycerin, Terminalia ferdinandiana fruit extract, and Pleiogynium timoriense fruit extract (the latter two of which are other types of Australian plums). This blend is known by the trade name Wildplum Harvest™ AF. Recommended use levels of this branded blend are 1–2%.
