Lz1 peptide is a synthetically designed peptide comprising 15 amino acid residues. It functions as an antimicrobial agent, specifically targeting the bacteria most commonly associated with acne vulgaris, including Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus species.Rather than simply killing bacteria indiscriminately, Lz1 peptide appears to work through a dual mechanism: it inhibits bacterial growth whilst simultaneously dampening the inflammatory cascade triggered by these pathogens. This targeted approach may help address both the cause and the symptom of acne.

Lz1 peptide inhibits the growth and activity of acne-causing bacteria at remarkably low concentrations—approximately four times more potent than the antibiotic clindamycin against P. acnes.
