Matrixyl is the trade name for palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, a signal peptide that has become one of the most popular anti-ageing peptides in skincare. It works by mimicking the appearance of broken-down collagen fragments, which triggers the skin to produce new collagen.
When applied topically, Matrixyl sends signals to fibroblasts (collagen-producing cells) to increase production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This helps restore skin structure and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Clinical studies have shown Matrixyl can reduce wrinkle depth and volume significantly over 2-4 months of use. It is well-tolerated and can be used by most skin types without irritation, unlike some other anti-ageing actives.
Matrixyl 3000, a newer version, combines palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 for enhanced results. Both versions work well in serums and moisturizers.
