Geranium oil (also known as Maculatum geranium oil) offers some beneficial properties but also can be a skin sensitizer due to its volatile fragrance ingredients.Geranium extract on the other hand is a very good antioxidant for skin, and the parts extracted are usually not fragrant, thus presenting minimal risk of sensitivity.

Geranium essential oil contains volatile compounds with antioxidant properties that may theoretically help protect skin from oxidative stress caused by environmental factors. However, in typical skincare formulations, the concentration and stability of these active compounds—and their ability to penetrate skin—remains unclear.As a fragrance ingredient, it works simply through its aromatic volatile components, which provide scent rather than a measurable skin benefit.

Geranium oil is typically found in small concentrations in formulations for its aromatic contribution. If using products containing this ingredient, introduce them gradually if you have sensitive skin, as essential oils can trigger irritation in some individuals. There is no evidence that higher concentrations of geranium oil provide greater skin benefits.
