Prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil is a non-volatile, non-fragrant plant oil pressed from the kernels of apricots. The oil is primarily composed of fatty acids oleic and linoleic acid, as well as vitamins A, C, and E. Linoleic acid helps improve skin’s ceramides, which play a vital role in maintaining skin’s barrier.
Applied topically, apricot kernel oil has moisturising and skin-restoring properties, as well as anti-ageing properties thanks to its antioxidant content.
How It Works
Apricot kernel oil works primarily as an occlusive emollient, meaning it forms a protective layer on the skin that slows transepidermal water loss. This helps skin feel more hydrated and supple.
The oil's fatty acids—particularly linoleic and oleic acid—are structurally similar to those found naturally in skin lipids, which may allow them to integrate reasonably well into the skin's upper layers without leaving a heavy residue on most skin types.

How to Use
Apply apricot kernel oil products to clean, damp skin to lock in hydration. It works well as part of a moisturiser or as a lightweight serum layer. For acne-prone skin, use cautiously and monitor for comedogenic reactions, as some individuals report sensitivity to certain plant oils. Patch test before full application if your skin is reactive.
