NeoStrata Reviews: The Skintique Academy Guide Reviews
21 product reviews
NeoStrata has been formulating dermatologist-led exfoliating skincare since the 1980s, and the brand's chemists hold some of the original patents behind glycolic acid exfoliation — the technology most AHA products on the market trace back to. Decades later, NeoStrata's own labs went a step further, developing Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs) as a gentler alternative, marketed across the range as “Bionic Acids.” That history is why the range still splits along acid-family lines rather than by product type: Resurface and Clarify lean on glycolic and mandelic AHAs for experienced exfoliation users, Bionic uses PHAs for sensitive, dry and post-procedure skin, and Enlighten, Skin Active and the standalone SPF, eye and lip products build around pigmentation, peptides and daily protection. This guide is the beginner's route through all of it — which family matches your skin, how AHA differs from PHA, and how to build a routine without over-exfoliating.

AHA vs PHA: the two acid families explained
Almost every NeoStrata decision comes down to one question: AHA or PHA? AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) — glycolic acid in the Resurface range, mandelic acid in Clarify — is a small molecule that exfoliates quickly and effectively, which is why it's the stronger, faster-acting option. It suits normal, oily and combination skin that's already used to acids, but several NeoStrata AHA products state plainly that they're not recommended for sensitive or reactive skin. PHA (Polyhydroxy Acid) — lactobionic acid and gluconolactone, which NeoStrata markets as “Bionic Acids” — is a larger molecule that penetrates more slowly, so exfoliation is gentler with less irritation risk. That's why the Bionic range is positioned for dry, sensitive, reactive and post-procedure skin. Neither is objectively “better”: PHA is the safer starting point if you're new to acids or your skin reacts easily, and AHA is the step up once you know your skin tolerates exfoliation well.
Which NeoStrata range suits your skin?
- Resurface — glycolic acid AHA, for experienced exfoliation users wanting visible texture and tone improvement. Several products in this range explicitly exclude sensitive/reactive skin.
- Bionic — PHA (“Bionic Acids”), for dry, sensitive, reactive skin and post-procedure recovery. The gentlest acid family in the range.
- Enlighten — targets hyperpigmentation, dark spots and uneven tone with Niacinamide, Vitamin C and Kojic Acid; always pair with daily SPF.
- Skin Active — peptide-led anti-ageing (firming, eye care, hydration), largely acid-free.
- Clarify — oily and blemish-prone skin, built around glycolic acid at oil-control-friendly strengths.
- SPF & standalone — three facial sunscreens at different strengths and finishes, plus a dedicated lip-line treatment.
If you're not sure where to start, treat sensitivity as the deciding factor first (Bionic or Skin Active over Resurface or Clarify), then layer in a concern-specific step — pigmentation, firming or oil control — once your skin is used to daily actives.

Building a NeoStrata routine without over-exfoliating
The most common mistake with an acid-led brand like NeoStrata is stacking too many exfoliating steps at once — a Resurface cleanser, a Clarify toner and a Bionic serum in the same routine adds up to more acid exposure than most skin needs in one day. Start with a single exfoliating step, patch test any new product, and only add a second once your skin has adjusted. Several NeoStrata AHA products state directly that they're not recommended for sensitive or reactive skin, while the whole Bionic range and several Skin Active products are formulated with sensitivity in mind — check the individual review before adding anything to your routine.

Our approach
Every fact in this guide comes from NeoStrata's own product listings on Skintique, not marketing copy we can't stand behind. Where a listing states a specific active percentage or a brand clinical claim, we attribute it to NeoStrata rather than presenting it as our own finding — and where a listing doesn't confirm a detail, we say that too rather than guessing. We don't run star ratings or aggregate review scores on these pages; they're independent breakdowns to help you shop the range. Because several NeoStrata actives carry real considerations around pregnancy, sensitivity and diagnosed skin conditions, we'd rather point you to a patch test and a conversation with our team than assume.
