Suspending it in dimethicone and polysilicone-11 keeps it stable and, as a side effect, gives the product a genuine primer finish. How To Use

Application: One to two pumps morning and evening after cleansing. Massage into face, neck and décolleté in upward circular motions, avoiding the eye area.

Expert Tip: Apply to completely dry skin. Water is what destabilises ascorbic acid, and a damp face partly defeats the point of a waterless formula.

Ascorbic Acid — Pure vitamin C, and the form with the strongest evidence behind it. It neutralises free radicals and is a required cofactor for prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase, the enzymes that cross-link new collagen. Notoriously unstable in water, which is why this formula has none.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) — A stable ester of vitamin E. Fat-soluble, so it protects the lipid parts of the membrane that water-soluble vitamin C cannot reach, and the two regenerate one another.

Dimethicone and Polysilicone-11 — The base, and not merely filler. They fill in surface irregularities optically, which is where the immediate smoothing and the primer function come from, and they hold the ascorbic acid in suspension away from water.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract — Soothing, and useful in a high-strength vitamin C formula.

Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil — A lipid carrier that also carries its own tocopherols. Note this if you have a soy allergy.

FAQ

Why is there no water in it?

Because ascorbic acid falls apart in water. That is the reason most vitamin C serums turn yellow and lose strength within a couple of months of opening. With no aqueous phase there is nothing for the oxidation reaction to happen in, so the acid stays intact until it meets the moisture on your skin.

Vitamin C usually stings me. Will this?

Almost certainly not. The sting from a water-based vitamin C serum comes from the low pH it needs to stay soluble and penetrate. There is no water here and therefore no pH, so the common complaint does not apply. This is generally the version sensitive skin can tolerate.

Is it a serum or a primer?

Both, genuinely. The silicone base that stabilises the vitamin C also fills surface irregularities optically, which is exactly what a primer does. You get the antioxidant treatment and the make-up base in one step.

How long until I see results?

The smoothing is immediate and cosmetic — you will see it the first time you use it. The antioxidant protection starts from the first application but is invisible by nature. Changes in firmness and tone from collagen support take three months or more of daily use.

Can I use it with my retinoid?

Yes. The usual convention is vitamin C in the morning, where its antioxidant protection is most useful, and a retinoid at night. Using both at the same time is not harmful, but splitting them makes better use of each.

Is it safe if I have a nut or soy allergy?

There are no nut-derived ingredients, but the formula does contain glycine soja (soybean) oil. If you have a soy allergy, do not use it — ask our team and we will suggest an alternative vitamin C.

Light non greasy serum

I use this with the Alumier Hydralight moisturiser and it makes me skin glow. It’s not greasy, my face feels so soft and fresh. I don’t break out. It’s expensive but you only need a tiny amount each day so it lasts a while.
